ROBERTSONS of STROME, ALBERTA

Heinrick (Henry) Jacob Ketteman [Parents] was born in 1765 in Fredrick County, Maryland, USA. He was christened on 26 May 1782 in Woodsboro, Fredrick County, Maryland, USA. He died in Aug 1811 in Franklin County, Virginia, USA. He was buried in Kitterman, Cemetery, Franklin County, Virginia. He married Anna Danner on 8 Mar 1785 in Woodsboro, Fredrick County, Maryland, USA.

See the "Kitterman Sinew" by Virginia Shoemaker Perry for a more complete
family history. The following is a brief summary of that history.

Since there is no record that he owned land in Maryland he must have lived
with his father-in-law for some 6 years before he moved to Pennsylvania
where it is thought he lived for 8 years. He then moved to Virginia
where he purchased his first land in 1796. This property was next to that of
his parents and his uncle, John George Kitterman. It appears that he changed his
name to Henry Kitterman when he registered his land in Virginia.

He made his will on July 15, 1811 and died within 6 weeks. He must have been
sick for sometime and sensed his death. He died at the age of 47. His will was
probated September 2, 1811. He was buried in the Kitterman Cemetery on his
parent's property in Virginia

It is thought that his wife, Anna Danner, was a relative. They had 13 or 14
children: Mary Magdalena, Anna, Henry, John, Hannah, Susannah, George W.,
William, Michael, Christopher, Zackariah, Elias, and Peter.

Anna Danner [Parents] was born in Nov 1766 in Fredrick County, Maryland, USA. She was christened on 11 Jun 1788 in Woodsboro, Frederick County, Maryland, USA. She died in Dec 1832 in Perry County, Indiana, USA. She was buried in Kitterman, Cemetery, Perry County, Indiana. She married Heinrick (Henry) Jacob Ketteman on 8 Mar 1785 in Woodsboro, Fredrick County, Maryland, USA.

A brief account of Anne Danners life is given in an article about her son,
Elias Kitterman, in the "Portrait and Biographical Album of Wapello County,
Iowa; published by Chapman Brothers, Chicago; 1887. This reads:

"He (Elias) was the son of Henry and Anne (Danner) Kitterman, of Pennsylvania, and his father died in Virginia, leaving his widow with a family of 11 children. Soon after the death of her husband, Mrs K. removed to Indiana and settled in Perry County, where she entered a tract of wild land, and, with the assistance of her children, opened up a farm in the midst of the heavy timber. She was a lady of great energy and business talent, and determined to keep her little family together, which she accomplished. She trained them carefully to honest and worthy lives, and to habits of industry and economy and presented them an example of a sincere and worthy Christian life. She was prominently connected with the United Brethern Church, and died upon the homestead which she had established in Perry County."

Virginia Shoemaker Perry in her book "Kitterman Sinew" writes about Anna
DANNER as follows:

"Anna Danner was born November of 1766 to Philip Danner and Eva Kitterman,
according to St. Peter's Luthern Church records in Fredrick Co., Md. See page E of the record. Anna was not baptized into the Luthern Church until three years after she and Henry were married. Anna was left a widow in 1811 with 11
children, nine of which still lived at home. The children ranged in age from 2 to 22. After Henry's death, Anna continued to buy and sell property in Franklin Co. until the 8th of June, 1819. She was still a resident of that county and could not sell any property which her husband, Henry had purchased, except the tract of land he purchased from Titus England. According to Henry's will, she was to keep all other properties for the purpose of raising and schooling his children.

"The 1820 census of Ind. was taken in Jamuary of 1821. At that time, Anna was
a resident of Harrison Co., Ind. Contrary to oral history, handed down in the
family, Anna did not move here in 1828, but by that time had been living there for at least eight years.

" In 1830 census of Perry Co., there was an older lady living with Christopher and Elizabeth Highfield Kitterman. That lady was, no doubt, Anna as Elizaabeth's mother is accounted for. The older lady who lived with Zackariah in 1830 in Floyd Co., Ind. was Zackariah's mother-in-law. This too has been verified.

"By January 1833, Anna had died. Her sons Elias and Peter went back to
Franklin Co. Va. and settled the estate. If you recall, once Anna died or
remarried, the property her husband Henry had left her was to be divided among the children. Anna never remarried and when she died, she left 10 living children. Since she was living in the home of Christopher at the time of her death, she was probably buried in the Kitterman Cemetery on land which
Christopher had deeded for that purpose."

There is a suggestion that Anna Danner and her husband Heinrick Ketteman were
cousins, both having the same grandfather, Heinrick Kettemann. This has not
been clearly establshed.

They had the following children:

  F i Anna Kitterman
M ii Elias Kitterman was born on 28 Sep 1807 in Franklin County, Va. He died on 14 Nov 1888 in Ottumwa, Ia. He was buried in Kitterman Cemetery, Wappelo Co., Ia..

From his obituary in the Ottumwa Daily Courier, 24 Nov 1888 as reprinted in the Kitterman Korners Newsletter of Fall/Winter 1997:

"KITTERMAN. In Highland twp. this county, at the residence of his son-in-law, Jefferson Thompson, Nov. 14, 1888, Elias Kitterman in the 82nd year of his age. He was born in Franklin County VA, Sept. 28. 1807. He emigrated with the family when a boy from Virginia to Indiana and in 1842 he settled in Princeton, IL.

In May 1843, when this county was first opened for settlement, he emigrated here and took up his claim in section 12. Dahlonaga twp. There he made his farm & lived til 1874 when he moved to this city where he lived until within a short time past. He has been quite feeble for many months. Five children survive him, viz: Mrs. Mary Ann Koontz of CA, Mrs. Sarah J. Bowlin & Mrs. Nancy Thompson of Highland Township, this county, John H. Kitterman of Kansas City, & George W. Kitterman of this City.

Mr. Kitterman is the sixth of the old Harrison veterans of 1840 in this county, who have passed away since we commenced collecting their names.

Elias Kitterman was one of the pioneers of Wapello county, coming in just as soon as the Indians left it. His word was his bond & he was careful to see that no obligation was left unliquidated."

M iii Peter Kitterman was born on 10 Dec 1809 in Franklin Co. Va.. He died on 22 Mar 1889 in Wappelo Co., Ia.. He was buried in Kitterman Cemetery, Wappello Co., Ia.

and Anna Robertson.

Information from Virginia Owen Grahan indicates a daughter of George and Anna
Robertson by the name of Anna Robertson born 1830. Is this a sister to Nancy or
is it the same person; ie Anna Nancy or Nancy Anna Robertson?

Nancy's name was shown along with her father and mother in the 1850 census for
Wapello County, Iowa, family #776, page 456. See notes under father.

Found in the Genealogy Library at the Ottumwa Museum a list "First 20 Years of

Winkle on 24 August 1854.

George Royston was born about 1661.

George ROYSTON is mention in the Clifts Meeting which were held about
every six months in Caalvert County, probably near Herring Creek.
The records of these meetings indicate that George had two daughters
Adell and Rebeckah and two sons, George and John, born during the years
1686 to 1694. George must have been born some 25 years earlier - to be
married at 25 - in the year 1661.
This would make him too young to be the child of a Thomas ROYSTON who
was born in England in 1610 and and came to Virginia or Southeast
Maryland in 1635 on the "Elizabeth de Lochhristopher" from Gravesend,
England.

George ROYSTON may have been a grandson of this Thomas ROYSTON.
