Pierre GAGNON along with two brothers, Jean and Mathurin, came to Canada in
1635 from Tourouvre, Perche, France. The history in the above source (page
1588) states that his wife was Marguerite DESVARIEUX, whereas the information
on page 533 gives here name as Vincente DESVARIEUX. They settled along the
shore of Beaupré which later become the Perish of Chateau-Richer.Both Jette and Tanguay give the name of Pierre's wife as
Vincente DESVARIEUX, married in 1642.Pierre's birth year is given as 1616 by Tanguay.
There is a small plaque near the Château Richer honoring the three GAGNON brothers who were pioneers in the area.

that Julien FORTIN was named "SIEUR de BELLEFONTAINE" by de Chambly, governor
and lieutenant-general for the King in New France (Rouer de Villeray, notaire, 23 aout 1657). He was also co-seigneur of a tract of land along the shore of Beaupre and Ile-d'Orleans.
